Here are some highlights from last year:  
One Million Borrowers

ü  We have reached our goal  One million Houstonians now have MyLink Library Cards!!!

ü  215,000 HISD students and also HISD staff and administrators now have virtual Learning Link Library cards

 Renovations and Openings

ü  Jungman

ü  Alief

§  In progress – Blue Ridge, Robinson Westchase, The Gregory Row Houses,  and Central Library’s fifth floor

 Central Library Plaza

ü  Phase one of the renovation of the Central Library Plaza has begun and is targeted to be completed  by February.

ü  Former First Lady Barbara Bush, an unwavering  national and local advocate for literacy, has agreed to lend her name to the plaza to attract support for the plaza.

ü  The Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza will be the physical focal point for literacy in Houston.  We are very proud of this distinction!

§  We hope to  begin the work on phase two of the plaza by this fall.

Organizational Structure

ü  We have made structural organizational changes to HPL to:

§  facilitate more effective cross divisional communication and collaboration

§  make our organization more flexible and agile to enhance our ability to quickly address opportunities and/or challenges

§  enhance our focus on literacy, outreach and education

§  support Mayoral initiatives

 

TechLink  - New Service Model

The renovations and operational plans for our new TechLink service model featuring  state of the art technology launched with a target opening in late April or early May @ Scenic Woods.

Awards and recognition

Mr. Weeks received the coveted and prestigious national award  “I Love My Librarian”  

Oak Forest was recognized as the most beautiful library in Texas by Elle Décor Magazine

Conferences

To keep HPL abreast of trends in the industry and share with others our accomplishments - A number of  HPL Team members attended and presented at national and statewide conferences and meetings. We plan to continue to be professionally engaged in this way.
